I’m at AuthorFest of the Rockies!

It’s my second time at AuthorFest, and it is so much fun! The organizers do a stellar job, the town of Manitou Springs, Colorado is a GEM, and proceeds go to their library, which is one of the few Carnegie-founded libraries that’s still a library. Also, they have a patron book-widget called an ELF, so I’m all over that.

At 9:30 am on Saturday, I’ll be giving my workshop, High-Concept: Built-in Marketing for Your Books. Basically, a high-concept is one that is intriguing, appeals to a lot of people, and can be quickly and easily understood. “In a world where everyone can only tell the truth… …this guy can lie.” That’s the log-line for the movie, The Invention of Lying, a very high-concept film. Non-fiction can be high-concept as well. The Tipping Point, Chicken Soup for the Soul, Bonk. Mass appeal, clever idea, and a pithy idea for you to sell to your agent, your agent to sell to a publisher, and your publisher to sell to readers. High concept! (You’re soaking in it.)
