An Evening in Boulder…

But first, a word from our sponsor…

Last night, Angel Joe, Neighbor Brad and I walked to Redfish for dinner. It was sprinkling, so we looked as though we were auditioning for The Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Outside the Hotel Boulderado, an Important Young Female (or someone doing a good impression) stood outside, looking wealthy, blonde and slim. She wore a black lace overdress with a long black scarf around her neck, and had that all-important accessory — a bulky man in a suit, with brutally short hair and dark glasses. She stood there, looking demure and modest, as he hustled her car over. Her modesty was a little wasted, because no one was looking at her. We breezed by chatting a mile a minute. Most Boulderites make it a point never to gawk. On the rare occasions when movies are filmed here (Catch and Release), we don’t cluster around on filming days, but stroll right on by with our soy chais, shaking our heads at impertinent production assistants as if they were vagrants asking for change. They’re just movie people. We live in Boulder.

Just before we reached the restaurant, I saw Qin in the Ku Cha House of Tea. He and his wife are from Shanghai, but went to CU and stayed on to open a tea store and then a tea house. I bought some matcha (powdered green tea) and chatted for a bit.

After dinner, we walked back via the Pearl Street Mall, which allowed me to double-check two book locations for Book 2, Bound to Want Him. I changed my pool-playing scene from the Walrus Bar to ‘Round Midnight. What a great place, and it’s been there forever.

This morning, I followed Qin’s suggestion and had my matcha with an equal amount of soy milk, slightly sweetened with agave. OMG, so good. I gotta buy me some boba.
