Dog Day Thursday

It’s not all cats around here. Well, it is, but right next door, it’s dogs. Nellie and Charlie belong to Dominick, and I let them out most weekdays for a tinkle. They’re both Cairn terriers; Charlie’s the white one and Nellie is a ringer for Toto. But if Nellie had been Dorothy’s dog, let’s just say the flying monkeys might have dropped her en route. Not that she’s not sweet. She’s very sweet. She’s also a shrieking, disobedient escape artist without a brain in her head. I remember vividly watching her run out in front of a dump truck — twice. When the driver slowed, she circled back around so she could do it again. “Well, that’s it,” I thought, as she nipped at the back wheel, then came around for another pass. “I’ve killed Dominick’s dog.” Apparently staying inside the fence was just temporary politeness on her part. Dominick has since put chicken wire up. She sulked the first day afterwards.

Charlie and Nellie

Here they are anticipating a treat. This is the one time Nellie can be counted on to sit. No one cares if Charlie sits. He’s so good on a regular basis, it doesn’t matter. I haven’t told them to sit, either. She’s just showing how “good” she is.

Charlie and Nellie

Look at her. Still sitting.

They really are cute. Watched “The Ghost and Mrs. Muir” last night, and there was a Cairn in it. So cute.
